In a heartbreaking turn of events, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, the beloved reality-TV personality and daughter of Mama June Shannon, as well as sister to Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, has tragically lost her battle with cancer at the age of 29.
The devastating news was shared by Shannon through an emotional Instagram post on Sunday. She expressed the profound grief, stating, “With a breaking heart, we are announcing that (Anna) is no longer with us. She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM.” Accompanied by a poignant family photo, Shannon continued, “She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months. She passed away with her family around her…and we will be updating y’all with more information as we get it today. We love y’all and appreciate continued prayers and thoughts for our family during this difficult time.”
Cardwell faced the harsh reality of a cancer diagnosis in January, with doctors revealing its impact on her lung, liver, and kidney. Commencing her resilient battle, she underwent her first round of chemotherapy in March. Documenting her challenging journey on social media, she shared on May 10 that she had reached round three of chemotherapy.
Reflecting on the day, she wrote, “It was a pretty good day, but did get a little rough, and Cracker Barrel was good going down but not up. But overall, it’s going well, and chemo is working, we come to find, so things are looking good.”
In the wake of her passing, Cardwell leaves behind her grieving mother, daughters Kaitlyn Elizabeth and Kylee Madison, and sisters Lauryn, Alana, and Jessica.
